On August 7th 2015, the second annual Bootstrapped Brews event took place in downtown Denver.
The goals behind Bootstrapped Brews were to raise money for a local charity and bring startups together for a friendly brewing competition.
Over six hundred ticket-holders came to Bootstrapped Brews. Twenty-one sponsors graciously helped facilitate the event – by providing stickers, glassware, photographers, food and more. Twenty participating startups provided home-brewed beer that was enjoyed by judges and event attendees alike.
A panel of judges gave out awards for the top three beers:
- First Place: “Brynhildr”, Berliner Weisse (23A). Ping Identity
- Second Place: “HMS Skipjack”, ESB/Strong Bitter (11C). ReadyTalk
- Third Place: “Charleywine”, English Barleywine (17D). Lagrange Systems
- Honorable Mention: “Code Monkey”, Coconut Porter. Bowtie.io
People’s Choice – determined by the number of votes from event attendees – was given to the following startups:
- First Place: Ping Identity
- Second Place: GoSpotCheck
- Third Place: AdVision
Most importantly, Bootstrapped Brews raised $7,300 for Promise Ranch, a riding center dedicated to providing equine activities and therapies for intellectually, physically and developmentally disabled individuals.
Brennan Gilbert, event organizer from GoSpotCheck, was pleased with how the brewing competition turned out. “Although this event happened in 2014, we really aimed to take it to a new level this year,” Gilbert says.
“As organizers, we could not have been happier with the amount raised, the volume of generous sponsors, the participating startups and of course, our 600+ guests! We look forward to seeing how this event evolves within the Denver startup community.”
GoSpotCheck hopes to help organize another Bootstrapped Brews event in 2016! Stay tuned.
