Last Saturday, the team from GoSpotCheck and some of our friends went out to Denver International Airport to support the Special Olympics Colorado Plane Pull Event. SOCO is an amazing organization and we were lucky to participate in an event that was not only a great opportunity for some team building, but allowed us to get involved with a local organization worth supporting.
SOCO’s mission is “to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills, and friendships with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community.”
At Signature Flight Support at DIA, we were one of 46 teams to participate. 23 GoSpotCheckers pulled a Fed-Ex plane 12 feet in 7.85 seconds! We didn’t win, but we impressed ourselves and had a lot of fun doing it. There were over 1000 people there for this inaugural event, a testament to SOCO and its awesome staff, athletes, and supporters.
When you think about fundraising events you tend to think of large companies with big checkbooks participating, but it’s important to remember that small businesses can help too, and it’s just as important to give back when you’re small. I encourage all the local tech startups to get out there and find an organization worth supporting!
